Kelly's Leadership for the Environment
Kelly + Environment - Kelly Hayes-Raitt for Assembly, California District 41  
The California League of Conservation Voters brought Kelly to Los Angeles in 1983 to open their community organizing office. She has since led efforts to establish policies to protect and improve our air quality, coastline and open spaces.

Kelly's leadership for protecting the environment has changed California's policies:

  • As Lt. Gov. Leo McCarthy's environmental representative, fought oil drilling off the Northern California coast and championed the federal Desert Protection Act
  • With the Coalition for Clean Air and NRDC, championed regulation to phase out diesel school buses
  • Helped found Heal the Bay
  • Created the HomeSafe Campaign to pass state legislation to set health standards to protect people from toxic mold
  • Built broad coalition and acted as national spokesperson to retain environmentalists' legal rights to hold corporate polluters accountable
  • Served as Executive Director for the statewide Coalition for Clean Air
  • Started CLCV's first canvass outreach programs and organized against oil drilling
  • Publicized Global Green's efforts to increase solar energy in Los Angeles
  • Organized the Hybrid Car Rendezvous for the Union of Concerned Scientists
  • Campaigned for the successful Nuclear Freeze Initiative
  • Created the Roll Back Wal-Mart Campaign to fight big box developments
  • Campaigned against an environmentally destructive Big Box in Westlake Village
  • Coordinated publicity for Taxpayers Against Polluter Protection: No on Prop 37
  • Fought development in the Ballona Wetlands
  • Canvassed in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia for Clean Water Action
  • Pioneered the nation's first door-to-door canvass for the League of Conservation Voters
